about me

Hello beautiful people!!

Welcome to my website and portfolio. My hope for this site is to be able to share my passions, some random thoughts on my mind, my grand ideas for change and justice, and my art in the hopes of creating a bigger basis for community and connecting with people who think like me :)

My name is Sloane, my pronouns are they/she, I have an Honours BA in Women's and Gender Studies, and I have a deep passion for social justice and reform. Currently, I am working on my MA thesis within the pedagogies of socially engaged artistic practice and street art as a bridge and alternative to institutional knowledges. Everybody deserves access to education - it is how we connect to each other.

I work, volunteer and contribute my life to anti-oppressive work, because I believe it is part of my role here on this beautiful planet. I am super passionate about social justice, equitable education, gender equity, intimate partner violence awareness, harm reduction and intimate care labours, to name a few fields! I dedicate my time outside of my research to helping others, however that comes to me.

I am a very spiritual person, a tarot reader and a guide. My spiritual practices help inform the social work that I do, as well as the artistic practices I find myself in. I like to work against the tradition of many fields, as formal training does not make you an artist, nor does it make you a healer. You can teach skills, but seldom can you teach passion.

I am also a cat parent, a proud queer body and a lover of most kinds of music. I love to talk, and you can find a wide range of my rants through my podcast.

I am excited to share my portfolio with you, and to work together to foster better community connections.

Love always, S

My Values

  • Education & Empowerment

I believe that education is empowerment, and that having access to equitable education is a key to creating a more just and enjoyable society. I also believe that by engaging in accessible and transcendent education rooted in decolonization, anti-oppression, and social reform, we can all take steps to unlearn and build better communities!

A lot of education is not accessible for the general public, hidden behind paywalls or forms of learning that don’t make sense. My goal is to work to provide alternatives to traditional education so that everyone can be included.

  • Awareness & Representation

I believe that promoting awareness and representation of diverse perspectives, experiences and cultural pieces of work are essential to challenging dominant oppressive narratives, specifically within the scope of the Western canon.

There are so many wonderful artists, scholars, writers and activists that have shared their knowledge and views to the world. There shouldn’t be one voice that dominates the rest, we all need to harmonize together.

  • Social Reform

My values of social reform are rooted in the belief that hegemonic, patriarchal, white and colonized systems of power have marginalized significant communities across the world. I believe that we can enact real change in our local communities by focusing on structural and political reform, and providing tangible social support where we can!

My value system is outlined by community care, radical rest and collective action. Learning and loving does not need to be reserved to one space or group - we can all come together to enivison better futures.
